
Southern Georgia Region: Georgia DOT awards construction contract for Valdosta Intersection improvements projects

Valdosta, GA ---The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has awarded 13 new contracts for construction projects across the state as part of the June 2024 bidding process. One was for a TIA-funded project in the Southern Georgia region. It is:
- Lowndes County: this project would make intersection improvements on SR 133 (North St. Augustine Road) at Gornto Road and at Norman Drive. The contract was awarded to The Scruggs Company of Hahira for $4.44 million. The project is expected to be completed at the end of spring 2026.

The TIA Program: Georgia's Transportation Investment Act (TIA) provides a unique process for regions to fund community-selected transportation infrastructure projects through a voter-approved one-cent sales tax. In partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation, regions are empowered to advance their economic and community development with regionally-oriented funds for construction projects, allowing them to be undertaken more quickly and efficiently.
